The Real Ale Guide to Newark, Southwell and District, co-published by CAMRA and local publishers Capital Media has won the Local Guide of the Year Award for 2012 at this year’s CAMRA Annual General Meeting. A message from Tracey, our Social Secretary: I am planning a pub cycle ride on Saturday, 6th April starting at 11.00 hours at the Wharf, Newark (outside the Castle Barge). The route will incorporate visiting four pubs and meeting the bus-riding members at the Final Whistle at Southwell where we shall support the presentation of their Certificate of Merit, which will be taking place at 3pm. Just Beer Micropub in Newark, winners of CAMRA Nottinghamshire Pub of the Year ward, have their presentation this coming Saturday, 7th July. Celebrations start at 1.30 and the 4 Tapsters have promised some great beers to suit the occasion, including two from brand-new breweries. There will also be a free buffet to soak up the beer.
Saturday 18th February saw the presentation to this year’s Newark CAMRA Pub of the Year winner, Just Beer Micropub. A buffet of sandwiches, nibbles and a specially made pork pie donated by Porters of Bridge Street, was provided to soak up the good ale on offer; Five beers were on the bar, all priced at £2 per pint between 1 and 5 o’clock. Saturday March 19th 2011 saw this year’s Newark CAMRA pub of the year presentation at the Prince Rupert. Landlord Tony was certainly emotional during his acceptance speech! To celebrate, five real ales and house wines were offered at £2 until 5pm and to soak it all up, pizzas were distributed on a regular basis.
