Pub of the Year
CAMRA awards the Pub of the Year certificate to a pub which, quite apart from serving top-quality real ale, has other notable qualities. This may be community spirit, good food, excellent ambiance, protected building or improvements to the pub.
Quality of beer is obviously the most important single factor in nominating a pub, but others should also be taken into consideration;
Atmosphere, service and welcome, clientele, sympathy with CAMRA aims and value for money all come in to the equation.
Whatever the reasons, you can be assured that the current Pub of the Year will serve you a cracking pint of real ale.
If you think you know a pub in our area that deserves this title, email us with your nominations and reasons. A full list of eligible pubs can be found here.
Current winner:
The current Pub of the Year is the Prince Rupert, Newark.
Saturday March 19th 2011 saw this year’s Newark CAMRA pub of the year presentation at the Prince Rupert. Landlord Tony was certainly emotional during his acceptance speech!
To celebrate, five real ales were offered at £2 a pint until 5pm and to soak it all up, pizzas were distributed on a regular basis.
We also took the opportunity to collect for our chosen charity, Beaumond House Community Hospice. £138 was collected, which hosts Tony and Heidi very kindly boosted with a £100 contribution!
The Love Boat Captains entertained us from 3.00pm which got Tony and Heidi, as well as some of the regulars, dancing and joining in with the tambourine.
Congratulations to Tony and Heidi and all of their team on winning this award, and many thanks for giving a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
