Branch meeting this week, 8pm Thursday at The Final Whistle in Southwell. We have a bus booked leaving from Castlegate at 7.30pm. Come along and support the local branch and the 2015 Pub of The Year.

The branch committee have discussed the judging period for the Pub of The Year (PoTY) and intend to bring a proposal to branch to alter the constitution, so that the deadline for nominations will be brought forward by one month to September each year, and to allow judges the option of either one or two visits to each pub. Don’t forget folks, meet at Newark Castle station at 10:50 tomorrow to catch the 11:04 train to Beeston where we will begin our Easter Ale hunt, travelling around the city on the trams.

On Saturday March 19th we will be taking the train to Beeston, where we will find four pubs, before using the tram system to find a variety of other pubs in and around Nottingham, all in search of Easter themed beers. As the day is all on public transport I do not need names but if we all travel together we do benefit from GroupSave tickets. Meet at Castle Station at 10:50am, in order to catch the 11:04 train.

On Saturday April 16th we will be taking a coach trip north of Newark, east of the Trent, visiting Harby, South Clifton, Besthorpe, Collingham and Winthorpe. The plan is to support all open pubs by drinking some of their beer. The bus will be leaving Castlegate at 11.45 and will return to town at approximately 19.30. The 2016 Newark CAMRA Beer Festival will be held on the Riverside Park, opposite the iconic Newark Castle, from Friday May 27th to Sunday May 29th. Come along and help us celebrate reaching a magnificent milestone, our 21st Festival. There will be a huge selection of real ales and real ciders to enjoy, along with the fringe events around the town, so why not make a weekend of it. Put it on your calendar now, before you forget.

Newark CAMRA will be presenting the Pub of The Year award on Sunday 28th February at 3pm. All are welcome to attend and help Just Beer celebrate their worthy achievement.

Newark CAMRA are very pleased to announce, after a very close run competition, that the 2016 Branch Pub of The Year is Just Beer, of Swan & Salmon Yard, Castle Gate, Newark.   The Branch pub of the year is selected from a shortlist of pubs nominated by members.
