Your intrepid reporters have just returned from a guided tour of the soon-to-open Newark Brewery. The old maltings on William Street have most of the original features intact and is a magnificent housing for the brewery, which will be the first brewery in Newark since the closure of the Maple Leaf (Winthorpe Road, now demolished) brew pub plant in 1986. Springhead Brewery will be holding its 1st Annual Beer Festival on Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th April at the Robin Hood site in Laneham, Retford, Notts. The bi-annual LocAle and Weinfest, held in the Castle grounds, comes round again this year on 17th – 19th June. Organised by the Town Council, this event showcases 7 wine growers from Breisgau and around 20 LocAles sourced from within a radius of 20 miles from the venue. The Newark Beer Festival is almost upon us again. This years, the 16th, runs from Fri 27th – Sun 29th May (Fri-Sun). Approx 160 beers plus ciders, perry and country wines.  There is a daily quiz and full entertainment proramme except friday afternoon, designated quiet session. Food avaiable at all times. New local brewery in the pipeline 1

I have just returned from a visit to the site of a new brewery in our LocAle area. The yet-to-be named brewery is being set up by Rob Neil of Maypole Brewery and his business partner, Gary Hobbs. The brewery is to be situated in the old dog kennels building which is part of Hardwick Village, in Clumber Park.
