Go Bellistic with the Beer Belles at Newark Beer Festival!

Go Bellistic with the Beer Belles!

Seven ‘Beer Belles’ from the Newark branch of CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale) were up at silly O’clock to travel to Lincoln Green Brewing Company Ltd, Hucknall to brew a one off beer, especially for Newark Beer Festival.

The ladies helped devise a recipe with Anthony Hughes of Lincoln Green, who explained how the brewing process worked and gave us fantastic hospitality. With guidance from Anthony and Martin Castledine (also of Lincoln Green) we did everything from start to finish, even the cleaning, so this is definitely our beer!! Brewing from scratch was a first for most ladies and it was the talking point in the pub during the afternoon as I’m sure it will be for many years to come. If everything went to plan, this beer will be a golden, easy drinking 4.2% ale. It should be a nicely balanced beer with a gentle bitterness and good aroma.

This year’s festival will open its door on Friday 24th May at 10.30am on the Riverside Park.

In addition, Louise Harrison, staffing officer for the event, has arranged a 2-hour slot at the forthcoming festival staffed entirely by Newark CAMRA ladies. The  ‘Beer Belles’ will be staffing all aspects of the festival on Saturday, 25th May from 4.30 until 6.30, looking splendid in their commemorative pink t-shirts. Could this be a first at a CAMRA festival?

Said Louise: “This is good positive campaigning for the CAMRA cause and hopefully the initiative will  reinforce the point that real ale is not just about men, the ladies also enjoy a pint!”
