New beer initiative planned for Newark.

Real Ale Collective of Newark

An idea was suggested by a local publican recently that a ‘Newark Beer Collective’ be set up with a view to putting Newark well and truly on the UK’s Real Ale map, tentatively named ‘RACOON’ – The Real Ale COllective Of Newark.

The basic premise is for a ‘think tank’ to be formed comprising of local publicans, brewers, consumers etc., to meet on an informal basis every few weeks to discuss,  exchange and develop ideas of how we can increase the popularity and availability of real ale in the Newark with the aim of bringing more drinkers to the town.  This will not just benefit pubs – it should bring more trade to local businesses and the town in general. We would like to make clear this is not this is not a CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) initiative, although it is expected that the local branch will be involved.

The first meeting would be just to talk about the basic idea and to gauge interest. The current plan is to include pubs within the Newark Town Council boundary and breweries situated in the Newark CAMRA Branch area. The initial meetings will be conducted on an ad-hoc basis, no chair or committee, although if this becomes necessary in the future it will be done in a fair and democratic manner.

The more that get involved in this project the better, as the more input there is the bigger the chance there is of making an influence. So, if you would like to get involved, please email newarkbeercollective@gmail.com by Monday, March 10th to register your interest.
