New local brewery in the pipeline 1

Dog KennelsI have just returned from a visit to the site of a new brewery in our LocAle area. The yet-to-be named brewery is being set up by Rob Neil of Maypole Brewery and his business partner, Gary Hobbs.

The brewery is to be situated in the old dog kennels building which is part of Hardwick Village, in Clumber Park. The kennels are being restored by the National Trust and will then be rented out for use as a brewery. Rob told me that the NT have been very helpful in helping him secure the building for what will be his second brewery venture. Maypole have been supplying beers to the nearby village Social Club for some time.

The project has been ongoing for over a year, the brew kit already having been obtained and kept in storage since March. The kit is the old 5.5 barrel plant from Tydd Steam Brewery, which in turn was previously acquired from Oldershaw Brewery. The water source will be taken from the nearby Clumber Water.

A possible name of the brewery may be Clumber Ales, but has to be decided. Rob hopes to start brewing by April or May next year… Just in time for the Newark Beer Festival! Newark CAMRA wish them both every success and we will bring you more news as soon as we have it.
